The Aussie Slang
I hope this will be a post that will kick start the journey to discover and enjoy using the Aussie slang. From my visits to Perth, my friends tell me that Australians, or Aussies, as they call themselves, like to shorten English words.
Some examples:
Australian - Aussie; biscuit - bikkie; blanket - blankie; breakfast - brekkie
Can you spot the pattern here?
More examples:
goodbye - ta; baby - bub; babies?
Aussies also leave out letters, for example, the letter 't':
Water - Wa'er; Computer - Compu'er
The 'a' vowel is day is pronounced as an open 'a' or 'ah' sound.
Day - dai
Other common lingo include:
G'day mate; No worries, mate
What other differences can you observe in their language? :)
