Caversham Wildlife Park - By Alethea Tan

This morning, we went to CavershamWildlife Park. When we reached there, we took a group photo and our guide, Mr Peter, came shortly. We were very excited as we have not seen any Australian native animals yet. When we entered, we saw some Australian native animals in their enclosures such as the black sawn, parrots, owls etc. However, we were wondering where the kangaroos, koalas and wombats were.

We went to watch a farm show. We saw a man riding a horse. I had never seen such a huge horse up close. We learnt that the dogs were trained to round the sheep and guide them. It was so funny to see the dogs round the sheep into their pen. The farmer then demonstrated how to shear a sheep. They also taught us how to milk a cow. Not all of us managed to milk the cow as there was a long queue.

After the show, we fed the kangaroos. Mr Peter told us many useful information and interesting facts of kangaroos which I did not know. e.g. Kangaroos can stop their pregnancy up to 2 years if they feel that they do not have enough food for their joeys. The kangaroos were very gentle and as I fed them, I felt a tickling sensation on my hand. I stroked their fur as well. It was so soft.

Next, we went to see the wombats and friends show. We took pictures with a fat wombat and a snake. The wombat was so cute. Before we ended our day at the park, we went to the koalas enclosure. Koalas sleep at least 20 hours a day. Hence, we were quite fortunate to see 2 koalas awake at that time. We managed to take individual photographs with the koalas. Koalas were so cute and cuddly!

I was so sad when it was time to leave Caversham Wildlife Park. I hope I could visit again.
