Sand Dunes

Sand granules accumulate through both wind and water transportation, a process known as saltation. Saltating granules form perpendicularly to the wind's direction , forming small ripples. As more granules collect, dunes form. (Source:Sand Dunes - An Overview of Sand Dunes - Geography - About.com)

Marsupials

A  pouch is one of the features that differentiate marsupials from other animals although not all have a permanent pouch and few have none at all. They are similar to mammals in being covered in fur and bearing live young which are suckled by the mother. In marsupials the gestation period is very short, which results in the birth of undeveloped young joeys. Although blind, without any fur on their bodies, and with hindlimbs only partially formed these tiny newborn marsupials have well developed forelimbs with claws that enable them to make their way into the pouch and latch on to a teat and continue their development in the pouch.
The short gestation period is compensated by the lengthy period of lactation, during which the young joey remains in the pouch and the composition of the milk produced by the mother changes, depending on the developmental stage of the young.    (Source: Australian Wildlife)

Marsupials

Marsupials are mammals who live in the Southern Hemisphere.
Examples of marsupials are kangaroos, koala, possums, opossums, wombats and the tasmanian devil. An infant marsupial is known as a joey.
Marsupials have a very short gestation period, which is about four to five weeks.
The blind, furless, miniature newborn is the size of a jelly bean.
Their young are carried in a pouch.

How sand dunes are formed

Dunes are formed when wind and waves transport sand onto the beach.  Sand particles are carried away by strong winds. These particles eventually fall when the wind if not strong enough to keep them aloft. The dunes start when an obstruction of some sort acts as a barrier to block the wind. The dune continues to grow by the same process. Dunes move slowly as the wind lifts sand up on the windward side and the sand falls down on the leeward side.

Sand Dunes

Hey! Did you all know....

Ans: They can protect beaches from erosion and recruit sand to eroded beaches. They also provide habitat for highly specialized plants and animals! They can be found in Finland, Europe, and many other places.

And...Where are sand dunes found?
Ans: They are found in the coastal and inland deserts. When the sand has been picked up by the wind, it will go wherever the wind takes it to. Therefore, there will be different shapes and sizes of them!

Waste In Singapore

Solid Waste Management

With Singapore’s limited land area and dense population, an efficient system for the collection and disposal of waste is critically important. Singapore therefore has an advanced waste management system in place.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) has overall responsibility for the planning, development and management of solid waste disposal facilities and operations in Singapore. This includes the licensing and regulation of solid waste collection and enforcement of illegal dumping.Singapore relied on landfills to clear the waste...Singapore is now a 'CLEAN AND GREEN' country.

Sembcorp serves an estimate of 2 million households and establishments, industrial and commercial customers and government agencies, and healthcare establishments in Singapore and Australia.
